Two Piazza sightings

Saturday, July 11

At last, we have finished the Alpine bed. The last of the plants have been placed in the centre part - thank you Adrian - after the well-grown weeds had been removed. Again. Obtaining the top dressing gravel has been the problem. The bags from Meale's had too much white in it, the gravel from Amazon was small and full of sand, the grit in the two bags bought from Bawdeswell was also very sandy and extremely wet. We've tried to mix them all up and that will have to do for now. Until the bulbs come in the Autumn!

Adrian has also installed the new pond pump and hose. Although the pond is too full of water lily, having running water in the waterfalls again is lovely. As are the new pond marginal plants.

The other hose is attached to a very old stone frog which spits into the water. I love it.

A round pond I built and installed about thirty years ago, which has a novel bird (Icarus), with its own pump, is also working again.
Adrian thought that it wasn't working - until it suddenly spat out a beakful of water. It takes about seven seconds to fill up and then clangs open before continuing.

Not much in the way of wildlife around the water at the moment, after several dull and rainy days. Mating Azure Damselflies. Single male below.

and the ever-present Four-spotted Chaser resting on the hat of one of Pam's People.

Our Budllejas aren't attracting much either. This Ringlet landed on distant foliage

and a Small Tortoiseshell sped on its way.
